I'm not sure what it is about trees, but their vertical strength and dominance in my paintings is evident. I loved being the forest as a child and still find amazement in the patches of light that can get through a thick canopy and light up the forest floor. This one's BIG, 30x40 and privides many patches of light to look at.

Well, I might be considered a hypocrite since I'm posting this "sunny" painting and working on a snow scene at the same time! That's the beauty of my passion- I can paint what I feel. Christmas Commission- Sagamore Beach

I think in this case, 2 is a pattern- a snow pattern that is. As I develop my style and experiment with technique, I tend to revist photos that I haven't tried yet, and this is one I was excited to try. I like that I didn't labor on details but implied lights and darks. This painting is 18x18 on gallery wrapped canvas, it doesn't need a frame.

Our annual school trip north to the NH mountains comes with success in team building, but also a bonus of great vistas and fresh air. We ate lunch with this view on our first long hike up Mt. Willard, overlooking a textbook example of a U shaped valley. The fall colors of oranges and browns perfectly complimented the purples and blues in the background. Mile Road Mirror

The road that connects Wells Beach to Rte 1 is exactly 1 mile long, hence it's name of "Mile Road". As the sun sets back over rte 1, the tide provides a beautiful mirror to reflect the marsh, the lights and most of all, the bold colors of a Maine sunset. Ten minutes to sundown- Open Studios Library Display

Spending two weeks this year in Wells, I've come to accept that the ocean must be a part of my present, and future. I work towards living close enough to smell the ocean air someday and I know that I will never regret my decision to aim for the coast. The sunset on the marsh each night is different, and I find myself holding my breath, watching the colors change rapidly, until, about ten minutes later, all is greys and purples, the sun down for the evening, until the next day.

Size 10x10 on canvas, this painting will be hung in the Natick Library as part of Open Studios, the theme this year is "Ten". I hope you will visit me at Open Studios on Oct 15/16 Sat/Sun 12-5 in the Natick Town Hall.

The silhouette of a Maine sunset is very identifiable, and the deep greens of the pines and marshes blend together in a darker purple color as the sun puts on one last display before dipping below the horizon. There is a small causeway between the two beaches at Old Silver Beach in Falmouth on the Cape. The water is calm and there is great crabbing to be found, a small piece of hotdog doing the job! Finally learning how to capture the night with my Canon, I painted this from a photo I took along Ocean Ave, looking out at Wells Beach and onto Kennebunkport. I can't describe the blues and greys that appear in the sky and water, so I try to paint them so I don't have to lose them. I love the twinkling lights in the distance, and I always envy the keepers of the house on the rocks, probably reading a comforting book and listening to the ocean. Size 6x18 acrylic on canvas.

A second round for one of my favorite, most dramatic sky paintings. I really had fun capturing the movement and subtle light changes in the big storm cloud, and I imagine it moving silently over the land casting an ominous but temporary shadow on the grasses. We went to the 'secret beach' in Falmouth this past summer...just on the opposite side of a private beach. The best part was the taste of the warm salt water and the 'squeezy' seaweed- I think I stayed in the water for more than one hour at a time! Size 12x12.

I am continuously fascinated by light...and the light that can be emitted from behind a dark cloud always peaks my curiosity. Even on an overcast day, the colors that the marshes hold can be intriguing. Look for the deep blues, purples and oranges, and keep in mind that nature invented the color wheel, not us. Wells sunrise surprise

Technically, I could label all of my sunrise paintings with "surprise" since each morning I am treated to a different beautiful display in the sky. This morning, the blues against the rising orange sun were just perfect....and the deep browns and purples of the sand waiting to be heated looked amazing against the silvery-blue reflections in the water. The reservoir on the south shore provided a great running spot and a great place to photograph the loosetrife that surrounded the edges of the water. The deep darks in the corners of the water reflected the pinks and greens and really acted just like a mirror on a calm, sunny day. This is an acrylic size 24x24 on canvas.
